The Sacred Military Constantinian Order of Saint George and the multi-faith Royal Order of Francis I are ancient and internationally recognised dynastic Orders of Knighthood. The Roman Catholic Constantinian Order has as its principal mission the defence and promotion of the Roman Catholic faith. Today, through its partnership with its sister order, the Royal Order of Francis I, the Orders jointly undertake spiritual, humanitarian, hospitaller and charitable projects across the world. The Constantinian Order consists of knights and dames who profess the Roman Catholic faith only. Among the knights and dames of the Royal Order of Francis I are followers of other Christian denominations, Muslims, Jews and other faiths.
The Grand Magistral Delegation for Inter-Religious Relations of the Sacred Military Constantinian Order of Saint George and the Royal Order of Francis I was founded in April 2006. The Order is among the very first Roman Catholic Orders of Chivalry to have formally enshrined within its structures the pursuit of greater inter-church and inter-faith dialogue and understanding. At the core of its activities which is carried out through the Order’s local and national delegations across the world are activities aimed at fostering greater understanding, respect, tolerance and cohabitation among all Christian denominations and the Muslim and Jewish faith communities. Since 2000, high profile inter-religious activities have been launched across Europe, North Africa and the Middle East.
The Constantinian Order and the Royal Order of Francis I are dynastic orders pertaining to the Royal House of Bourbon Two Sicilies which are reognised by successive decrees of the President of the Italian Republic and other governments and dynasties across the world. The Constantinian Order also maintains Consultative Status of the Economic and Social Council at the United Nations in New York, Geneva and Vienna. Today knights and dames of the Orders can be found across the globe and especially so throughout Italy, the rest of Europe and North and South America.
HRH Prince Carlo of Bourbon Two Sicilies, Duke of Castro, is the current Grand Master of the Order and is Head of the Royal House of Bourbon Two Sicilies. The Cardinal Grand Prior of the Order is His Eminence Renato Raffaele, Cardinal Martino. The Grand Master is supported by a Royal Deputation within the Orders Grand Magistry in Rome. The current Grand Magistral Delegate for Inter-Religious Relations is HE Mr Anthony Bailey, OBE, GCSS, who was appointed for a three year term in 2006 and subsequently re-elected in 2009 and 2012.
Headquartered within the Grand Magistry in Rome with a representative Chancery in London, the Grand Magistral Delegation for Inter-Religious Relations of the Sacred Military Constantinian Order of Saint George and the Royal Order of Francis I, whilst deeply rooted in its ancient and illustrious past, is actively engaged with the challenges of modern society.
